Alright, I’m going to open this with some good news.
Mafia Princess is now available for pre-order on Amazon Kindle. Here’s the link

Now here’s the bad news. Getting this book into print is one of the most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do. I’m sure this is meant to be easy. A number of people who have used these Print On Demand companies have said it’s fairly easy. There’s also a number of people who swear never to use them again so I guess it all depends.
Anyway. I spent a good two days wondering who it was that suggested I publish my book and cursing them out. When I actually voiced this question out loud to Matt he reminded me that it twas I who suggested I do this and I start questioning my existence. There was tears. There was alcohol. There were cookies. There was a lot of coffee. I now have a tub of ice cream waiting for me.

For some reason my word document said there was 580 pages, one program I uploaded it to had 480 and a different one said 520.

I’ve discovered that I do not have the patience for editing and formatting. Like none. Whatsoever. Thank God for my mum. After a husband and four kids she somehow has the patience of a saint.
So I think that we’re looking at a 5×8 paperback with 386 pages. At least that’s the count that mum’s computer came up with. So when you look at the product information for the kindle version don’t be thrown off by the 226 page count.
Now. As for when you can purchase yourself a paperback if you so wish….short answer…I don’t know yet. Long answer, there’s a lot of formatting issues to sort out with these POD companies but once I get the hang of it we’ll be in business. Then once I’ve ordered and received the proof copy and made sure of the quality I’ll make it available for everyone.
As I think I mentioned in my last blog post due to changes to Australian laws in 2018 American Amazon doesn’t ship proof/author copies to Australia. You can’t even buy books off of the American Amazon site. When I go to set up the paperback like I have my ebook it doesn’t give me the option to choose the Australian site as my marketplace. Because of these reasons I’m not sure if I were to make the paperback available right now it would actually be able to be sold on the Australian Amazon.
I’d rather hold off for a few more weeks to a month and have it available to those who I know want it than be able to sell it everywhere but here.
It’s coming. I promise. I have not given up on my dream of having my own paperback sitting on my shelf. Honestly no one else could buy a paperback for as long as I’m an author but so long as I have a copy sitting on my shelf I’ll be a happy little snapping turtle.
Why a snapping turtle you ask?
I’ll tell you why. Because I have a hard shell and a soft underbelly and I’ll bite you if you piss me off.
Just ask Matt. There’s been many time when he’s come to me two or three days after an incident and he still have evidence of my teeth on his arm.
I’ve told him to stop pissing me off but he’s a bit of a slow learner.
And while we’re here. An update on Operation Not Safe. Matt and I walked past a security camera display and he mentioned using the cameras in our pranks and now this is a thing that is going to happen. I’m hoping that there will be video evidence of our tomfoolery because sometimes I forget to record his reactions when I sneak up on him.
I’d be a terrible YouTuber.
Stay tuned for more updates regarding the paperback.

Heya SJ, sorry you’ve had a tough time with Amazon’s stupid shipping issues. Did you find that it was possible to get your proofs through somewhere like amazon.co.uk? It’s made me think that perhaps there’s better Aussie options for any future ones I publish. The latest Australian Personal Computer (APC) mag surprised me with a neat little article on ‘Write and publish a story’.
The Write part features none other than Perth’s own Simon Haynes’ writing app yWriter (which was free, not sure about the latest incarnation though) and the Publish part recommends Blurb BookWright, but like all the publishing sites I looked at, including Amazon, can only do as small as 5 x 8 in. I think I’m going to look high and low next time b/c I really want the pocket sized 4.25 x 6.87 in.

Hey,
That’s…actually not a bad idea. I didn’t see anything in the forums about it but maybe others hadn’t tried.
The computer application is still free I’m quite sure but the mobile app costs money. I’m looking into Blurb and Ingram Sparks so I’ll do a blog post about those once I’ve made some actual progress haha
