Today has not been a good day. Yesterday was also not a good day. Safe to say the last few days have been giant balls of stress and frustration and anger. Only some of it irrational.
Yes, I am PMSing. No, that doesn’t mean I’m overreacting. Maybe.
So the Mafia Princess ebook is ready to go. It can even be found on the Amazon store at this very moment. It doesn’t have a cover image yet so don’t look at it, but it’s there. Yes I uploaded it with a cover image, it just takes up to 72 hours for everything to be live on the store.
The print version however. Well. THAT has been a right kick in the pants I’ll tell you that much. So I had everything all ready to go, it all looked good and I was ready to order a proof copy because I wanted to make sure that the print book people buy is the best it can be.
You’d think that would be fairly straight forward right?
No.
I went to order a proof copy and guess what they told me. They can’t ship to my address. So I tried my parents address. Still nothing. Did some digging and it turns out that due to some changes in Australian law back in 2018, that now I think about it my parents had mentioned back when it happened, American Amazon does not ship proof or author books to Australia.
Now this could just be for the proof and author copies. Some forums I’ve looked at authors have said that they can still purchase their books for retail price and have them shipped but when I went to go and “buy” a random book it told me the same as before.
I also can’t guarantee that the print copy will be available in the Australian Amazon store until it gets released and if I do just go a head and release it I still can’t guarantee the quality which I don’t like.
So now here in lies a problem. How do I get a print copy of my book to be available to those who want it and don’t live in America and get a proof copy.
When I started researching self-publishing I read through a number of books on how to self-publish, some of them were a bit out of date but the general idea was still valid. One book in particular by Joanna Penn was quite helpful. It wasn’t called One book in particular. It was actually called Successful Self Publishing.
In it she went into the different websites that self-publishers can use to get their books out there. So now I’m looking into some of those but even that is doing my head in. I’m now trying to convert the KDP file back to word which didn’t work. So now it’s a matter of reformatting…everything.
I knew that this wasn’t going to be easy but I didn’t think it would be this difficult. Far out.
Here are the tallies since noon so far;
Rants to mum on the phone: 3
Adult drinks: 2
Hormone induced mental breakdowns: 1.5 (managed to stop that first one half way with the first adult drink)
Peanut butter cookies: …no one really needs to know but I need more
Now…time for the next drink…maybe some dinner.
P.S. For those of you who are my mother. No I don’t think drinking will solve my problems/am not becoming dependant on alcohol.
